SJSU Baseball Reached New Heights During Historic Season –

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The 2022 San José State baseball team reached new heights after securing a 30-win season for the first time since 2011 and making it to their first ever Mountain West Championship game while being picked to finish last in the Mountain West preseason poll.

Team Accomplishments:

  • The Spartans finished with a winning record (30-29) for the first time in over a decade (35-26 in 2011)
  • The Spartans ended conference play going 16-14 for the first time since 2018
  • SJSU won two conference tournament games for the first time since the 2011 WAC tournament, defeating Nevada twice then as well
  • The Spartans went to their first Mountain West Championship game
  • San José State finished the year with a single-season school record of 66 home runs
  • SJSU had a 30-9 win over Air Force (5/15) in their final MW regular season game of the season and it was the most runs for the Spartans since putting up 31 runs against Chicago State in 2009. It was the most runs for the Spartans ever in a MW contest and the most ever on the road for the Spartans. All nine starting position players had a hit, an RBI and scored a run
  • The Spartans had five players win Mountain West weekly Awards this season (Hunter Dorraugh (2), Robert Hamchuk, Charles McAdoo and Ethan Ross)

Individual Accomplishments:

  • McAdoo set a new single-season school record by reaching base safely in 44 consecutive games
  • McAdoo was named Second Team All-American – Collegiate Baseball, ABCA/Rawlings West All-Region Second Team and First Team All-Mountain West
  • McAdoo had the second-best batting average on team at .345 and finished the season with 79 hits, 47 runs, and 63 RBIs plus 12 home runs
  • McAdoo led the team in doubles (23) while ranking third in the MW
  • McAdoo went 4-for-6 and tied an SJSU record with nine RBIs, plus had a home run, three triples and scored four runs against Air Force (5/15)
  • Hamchuk led the Spartans with a .378 batting average and 94 hits which was good for third in the Mountain West
  • Hamchuk hit five leadoff home runs for the Spartans and was named First Team All-Mountain West
  • Hamchuk finished the season with career-highs in 56 runs, 94 hits, 39 RBIs, and 10 home runs
  • Hamchuk went 6-for-7 with a two-run home run, six RBIs and five runs in the 30-9 win over Air Force (5/15). The six hits and six RBIs were both career highs
  • Dorraugh tied the single-season school record with 15 home runs
  • Dorraugh finished fourth in the Mountain West in home runs
  • Darren Jansen led the pitching staff with an era of 4.67 while ranking sixth in the Mountain West 
  • Jansen was named First Team All-Mountain West and posted a record of 9-2 which was good for second in the conference
  • Brady Hill was named Second Team All-Mountain West and led the Mountain West in saves with 10
  • Hill appeared on the mound 24 times and started 15 games as a position player while throwing 26.1 innings this season with 28 strikeouts
  • Hill hit .270 with 17 hits, 10 runs, and three RBIs
  • Ethan Ross pitched 5.0 innings with eight strikeouts while only surrendering one hit and no runs against Sacramento State (5/20)
  • Ross had two games with eight strikeouts and led the Spartans with 63 on the season
  • Jonathan ClarkTheo Hardy and Jack Colette were named to the Mountain West All-Tournament team
  • Clark pitched 6.0 innings while letting up three hits and one run to help lead the Spartans to a 2-1 Mountain West Championship opening game win over Nevada (5/26)
  • Hardy had five hits with one RBI and three runs scored in their four Mountain West Championship games
  • Colette had three hits with four RBIs and three runs scored in the Spartans 15-6 win over Nevada (5/28) to send the Spartans to their first Mountain West Championship game
  • Aaron Eden pitched five innings while giving up one earned run in the Spartans 9-2 win over Nevada (4/24) which was their quickest game of the season at 2:16
